Hello, and welcome to this Infrastructure-themed GeoSpatial Stream. I’m your host, Todd Danielson, and today’s Lead Sponsor is Trimble’s Geospatial Division.

Today’s Top Story is the U.S. Federal Government. I’m sure just saying those words already caused a few people to turn off this broadcast, but on Sept. 22nd, the White House Office of Management and Budget; Council on Environmental Quality; and U.S. Department of Transportation announced new actions to accelerate the nation’s critical infrastructure projects, including an enhanced Federal Infrastructure Permitting Dashboard, new guidance to Federal agencies establishing metrics for the permitting and environmental review of infrastructure projects, and the first update in nearly 30 years to the Synchronizing Environmental Reviews for Transportation and Other Infrastructure Projects handbook.

In a statement from U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx: “To deliver infrastructure projects that achieve real impacts for the American people, we need to act with urgency and recognize that every day counts.”

Simultaneously, Foxx announced the immediate availability of $2 million dollars in federal emergency-relief funds to help repair roads and bridges damaged by wildfires that spread through several counties in northern California.

That was today’s Top Story, so if you stopped paying attention as soon as I said “federal government,” you can tune back in now. I’ll be back with more news after this Trimble interview clip from the 2015 Esri User Conference.

Ground-penetrating radar is being rapidly embraced in the infrastructure industry to capture as-built conditions of pipes, cables, roadbed conditions and other underground information without digging. The cover feature in the September/October 2015 issue of Informed Infrastructure looks at how merged LiDAR point clouds and ground-penetrating radar can create an immersive dataset that can be exported to CAD, BIM and GIS solutions. There were some major conferences recently, so I’m including several industry headlines.

Autodesk introduced its mid-year product releases, including new InfraWorks 360 and Civil 3D features as well as productivity and performance enhancements such as traffic simulation.

Topcon Positioning Group announced cross-platform support for its MAGNET Construct app, which is built to drive the LN-100 Layout Navigator system.

Esri partnered with the city of New Orleans to create an ArcGIS for Local Government solution called Photo Survey, which can be used to publish street-level photo collections and conduct focused property surveys that may identify blight, damaged structures or construction activity.

3D Laser Mapping launched StreetMapperIV, a portable and automated solution that comes with a high-accuracy laser scanner and navigation system, with optional additions of panoramic cameras and navigation upgrades.

And RIEGL released its VZ-400i 3D Laser Scanner, featuring real-time data acquisition, georeferencing, filtering and analysis.

For today’s Final Thought, here’s a video showing how UAVs are being used in Mongolia to map the infrastructure of its capital, Ulaanbaatar.

That’s it for this broadcast, but if you’d like to receive alerts when new GeoSpatial Stream videos are released, or sign up for additional V1 Media newsletters, please visit this Web site and register:
