Hello, and welcome to this Infrastructure-themed GeoSpatial Stream. I’m your host, Todd Danielson, and today’s Lead Sponsor is Bentley Systems.
Today’s Top Story is Informed Infrastructure. It’s certainly not unheard of for me to mention one of our sister publications later in these broadcasts, but I’m going with Top Story this time because of a slew of great content recently added to this platform.
I’ll start with the latest printed publication and its digital flipbook version. One of my favorites this issue is the cover story about the Treasure Island redevelopment project. I had to remind my myself that this was neither a Robert Louis Stevenson book nor a Las Vegas casino, but that cool little island in the San Francisco Bay. You have to check out the engineering tricks the developers used to improve bridge access there.
There’s also a new professional development hour that can be obtained by reading a benchmark study concerning Autodesk’s AutoCAD Civil 3D and InfraWorks 360 products and successfully completing a short quiz. If you need professional development credit, it doesn’t get any better or easier than here.
The Web site also features the latest news and information as well as new, online-only features and interviews published before, during and after the print publication is hitting the streets. If you aren’t already subscribed to the print magazine or weekly enewsletters, visit this address, and get that taken care of.

That was today’s Top Story. I’ll be back with more news after this interview clip of Greg Bentley, the CEO of Bentley Systems, at the SPAR 3D Expo and Conference.
Hexagon AB held its annual Hexagon Live event this week in Anaheim, California. Here’s a video clip from the opening keynote delivered by company President Olla Rollen:
In industry headlines, Hexagon launched (at the event I just mentioned) HxGN SMART Build, an enterprise construction-management software solution designed to alleviate cost overruns and delays.
CINTEC America will supply a new anchoring system for the overhead glass-fiber reinforced concrete panels for the NYC MTA subway-station retrofit project.
Contech Engineered Solutions launched a new online program for designing stormwater detention and infiltration systems constructed from Contech corrugated metal pipe. The free tool is available at this Web site.

And CoreLogic released its 2016 Storm Surge Report, which concludes that more than 6.8 million homes on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts are at potential risk of damage from hurricane storm-surge inundation with a total reconstruction cost value of more than $1.5 trillion dollars.
For today’s Final Thought, I wanted to let you know that as soon as I publish this video, I’m hitting the road. I’ll be driving for thousands of miles across American infrastructure from Colorado to Indiana, and back. It’s one thing to write and talk about a topic, but you learn so much more by really seeing it in action. I hope to come across some innovative designs and infrastructure improvements to balance out the inevitable construction and deteriorating roads and bridges, but I’ll soon find out. Whether good or bad, there’s nothing quite like a Grand American Road Trip. Wish me luck …
